What do we know now?

The first phase of community and stakeholder engagement ran from 14 October to 17 November 2024. During this time, we asked for feedback on three different growth scenarios for the Eastern Bay.
We heard strong interest in greenfield development (Scenario 1), with many supporting the proposed changes. However, we also heard that some locations were less suitable for growth due to local concerns and natural hazard risks.
Overall, people supported a balanced approach to growth. We heard that protecting community character, improving public spaces, and delivering affordable housing were important to support thriving communities. There was also a clear desire to support Māori land development, business expansion, and job creation.
The Engagement Summary Report has been prepared to capture what we heard. This feedback will now inform the final Our Places – Eastern Bay Spatial Plan.
